Proposing, countering and accepting

How the back-and-forth works, and what each parent can do at each point.

Family

Proposing

  1. Open Agreements.
  2. Give it a short title — "Christmas 2026", "Swimming lessons".
  3. Write what you're agreeing, in full sentences. Names, dates, times, places.
  4. Add the dates it covers, if it covers a period.
  5. Send it. Your co-parent is notified.

Keep it to one decision. Several small agreements are easier to accept, and far easier to read later, than one long one.

While it's waiting

Until your co-parent responds you can revise the wording or withdraw it entirely. What you can't do is accept it — an agreement needs both of you, and the app enforces that rather than just hiding the button.

Responding

  • Accept — the wording becomes agreed, signed by both of you and timestamped.
  • Propose different wording — change what you need and send it back. The proposal becomes yours, and now it's waiting on them.
  • Decline — with a reason, if you want to give one.

Once it's agreed

It's settled, and it's in the record. Nobody can edit or delete it, including us. If circumstances change, propose a new agreement rather than trying to alter the old one — the pair of them tells the honest story.

An agreement between you is not a change to a court order. If your order says something different, the order governs, and you should speak to your attorney before relying on anything agreed here.
